Preserve My Life

February 19, 2011 § Leave a comment

Psalm 119:33-40 ends with a prayer asking God to “preserve my life in your righteousness” and also gives the clues to how God preserves one’s life in the preceding verses.  The Lord preserves our lives in righteousness through teaching us His decrees so that we can understand and obey His law (119:33-34).  Such understanding and obedience are the ways in which we follow the Lord’s directions by turning our hearts away from selfishness and turning our eyes away from worthless things toward His promises (119:35-38).  There is no distinction between teaching and understanding or knowledge and obedience in this psalm.  You only know and understand it when you live it, and you will only live it when the knowledge and understanding become integrated in the ordinary routines of your life.  Let us pray today for Christian lives that reflect what we know about God.
