Knowing My Place

December 9, 2010 § Leave a comment

A friend of mine once said to know your place is the biggest secret of life.  Jesus praised John the Baptist as a great man who knew his place as the one who only prepared the way for the Messiah to come after him (Matthew 11:11).  John the Baptist certainly understood that life does not center around him, but that his purpose in life is to point to the One who came to save the world.  But if we point to Jesus, we find Him to even direct us away from Him to those that God sent Him to.  Because, when John the Baptist wanted to know if He really is the Messiah, Jesus gave Him proof by pointing to the healing of the blind, the lame, the sick, the deaf, and the poor (11:5).  Our place this Advent season is to direct others to the One whose birthday we celebrate by sending them to those among whom we will find Him today.
