Sing to the Lord a new song!

November 11, 2010 § Leave a comment

Psalm 98 is one of the great praise songs of the Bible.  Sing to the Lord a new song for he has done marvellous things (98:1)!  Psalms scholar Walter Brueggemann explains praise that “all of our life is aimed toward God and finally exists for the sake of God.  Praise articulates and embodies our capacity to yield, submit, and abandon ourselves in trust and gratitude to the One whose we are…  We have a resilient hunger to move beyond self.  God is addressed not because we have need, but simply because God is God.”  That means praise is not about me, but losing myself in adoration of God.  When the going gets tough, we trust God’s love and faithfulness despite the circumstances (98:3).
