Until He Comes Back…

November 1, 2010 § Leave a comment

We just started a sermon series (for three Sundays) using the 2 Thessalonians readings as basis for reflecting on faithful living during times when the going gets tough.  Yesterday, 2 Thessalonians 1 helped us discover that Christians are not looking for some natural “inner strength” during difficult times, but that our ability to deal with such circumstances is rooted in the power of God (1:11).  Today’s reading – Luke 19:11-27 – gives us yet another angle on how God’s power influences our perseverance and faith.  We live as a people who expect God to return again.  We have our eyes of faith fixed on Jesus second coming, and we find our everyday hope in that promise.  However, we do not sit back and watch the clouds for that to happen today.  We get busy with the abundant gifts that God now already give to us.  When the going gets tough, we do not sulk… we get busy stewarding God’s gifts that we gladly receive every day.
