Seek the Welfare of the City

October 13, 2010 § 1 Comment

When in exile – as all Christians are in some resident alien sense – build houses and live in them (Jeremiah 29:5).  No fearful locking up behind closed doors as the disciples did when they thought their Leader is gone forever (John 20).  But plant gardens, take wives, bear sons and daughters, and seek the welfare of the city where the Lord has sent you (Jeremiah 29:6-7).  Because the Spirit of the Lord is here forever, already present and active in the world that belongs to Him.  I gladly hear God’s movement in the noise of the city.  May some of those sounds be the movement of public churches participating in what God is up to in the city.
