Cure For The Snake Bites

March 12, 2012 § Leave a comment

In Numbers 21:4-9, God’s people are miserable.  And when people are miserable, they complain and become rebellious.  God responds by afflicting them with venomous snakes.  And because of that the people realized that they have sinned against God.  They went to Moses asking him to intercede with his prayers and to ask God to take the snakes away from them.  But God does not take the snakes away.  Instead, God provides them with a cure for the snake bites.  God does not remove our suffering as a consequence of our sinfulness or lack of trusting Him or for simply living in a broken world, but God does makes the journey with us and provides on this journey what we need to persevere in the midst of suffering.  That is the story of Jesus’ Lenten journey to the cross and also your story and mine as He took our suffering into His body.
