Anointed
December 5th, 2011 § 1 Comment
This is the season of special focus on the coming of the Anointed One. But is also a time of rediscovering our own place in God’s purpose with anointment. While we wait for the Anointed One’s second coming, we are blessed with his Spirit to be His anointed
until His next arrival. We are His anointed, but for what purpose? The prophet Isaiah says, “The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to preach good news to the poor” (Isaiah 61:1). The purpose of God’s anointment is to spread good news to those who are desperate for good news in some shape or form. Isaiah elaborates, “He has sent me to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners… to comfort all who mourn and provide for those who grieve” (61:1-3). Why? Because “the Lord love justice” (61:8). Therefore, the greatest gift that the Anointed One can receive during this season is for us to hear the call and to take up the responsibility of being His anointed sent to those in need of good news. Who will that be for you today?
