Salt Keep the Ghosts Away

February 3, 2011 § Leave a comment

There is an old African practice of putting salt out to keep the ghosts away.  Of course, you and I don’t believe salt can keep ghosts away, and we probably don’t believe ghosts exist anyway!  However, we do believe in the Holy Ghost and that Jesus told his disciples to be the salt of the earth (Matthew 5:13).  Jesus said that if salt loses its saltiness it is of no use anymore.  The earth cannot be preserved if you and I lose our saltiness.  How does salt lose its saltiness?  Scientists tell us that for salt to lose its saltiness, its physical composition has to be changed by being diluted in water or by the introduction of electricity.  So, for Christians to lose their saltiness, the Gospel have to be diluted in their lives by getting mixed up with the waters of other ideas and ideologies or by being infiltrated and indoctrinated by forces contra the Gospel.  If that happen to us, it is not so far-fetched to imagine opening the door for ghosts other than the Holy Ghost to enter!
